Now we have truly hit the mountain roads. Stunning views and snaky roads that vary from grand-prix condition asphalt to some of the most challenging construction sites that double as main roads. One things for sure, we’re having a great time and the panoramas are second to none.
Our KTM Military bikes continue to do us proud. Not missing a beat and toady even carrying us over a 4371 meter high pass. Rosie, who carries Conny and I, continues to lead the pack and very much likes taking the lead. She handles the corners with ease and seems to revel in the muddy conditions and bumpy roads. At times she gives Conny a jolt that nearly kicks her off the back seat like a fighter jet ejection seat but other then that she’s been nothing but a pleasure to ride.
We made it to Deqin for lunch and after that proceeded to Feilai Si. Feilai Si is 10 km out of Deqin and at the foothills of one of China’s most magical mountains, Kawa Karpo. Kawa Karpo is the highest mountain in Yunnan Province and stands some 6740 m and marks the border between China and Tibet. Our views are stunning and the peaks are as jagged as any I have ever seen. Tomorrow I will for sure open the window and watch the sunrise over the peaks that surround our hotel, no doubt a picture or two to capture the moment. (bs)
